September 5, 2012The RBAST project (Riparian Buffers Affect Stream Temperature) now has two lab exercises designed for undergraduate courses in Ecology or Environmental Science that are ready to use. The first exercise, Do Riparian Buffers Improve Stream Temperature?, introduces students to the stream temperature regime and the concept of scale. The second exercise, What Factors Control Stream Temperature?, requires more advanced thinking as students learn about the heat budget of a stream, develop their own hypotheses, and then test them using a computer simulation model. Both labs will help students improve their ability to manipulate, summarize and interpret large data sets. Data for both exercises was generated by the RBAST project. The curricula can be found under Education/Curricula.
